“There are more fake gurus and false teachers in this world than the number of stars in the visible universe.” – Shams Tabrizi
For the past two weeks, I was moved to discuss how we transform. I proposed that courses only inform – when they don’t bore. I shared my view that AI, wonderful and yet a tad menacing too, will help only in a limited way. As Jason and I discussed last week, we have a plethora of resources to support our growth, to lend a hand so we overcome challenges and realise our aspirations and yet, we may still feel lost because these resources — useful as they are — don’t “feed” us in the right way.
So where to turn?
When you have exhausted all avenues, what then?
A therapist? A mentor? A teacher? A coach?
I am not fond of labels so let me share what I have learnt through my own trials and tribulations. And indeed the lessons I seek to embody when I invite you into a Transformative Conversation.
Sight. How often do you feel seen? Without judgment, just for who you are.
Your talents celebrated. Your failings normalised. Your quirky sides held in benevolent humour.
Sight won’t transform but it’s fundamental to feeling safe enough to open up. To be vulnerable.
Courage. It might not sound as appealing as being seen, but sight alone will only comfort.
If real change is what you seek, someone needs to have the courage to tell you the truth.
Even if it stings… And then you need the courage to hear it. To sit with it. To challenge your own thinking. And ultimately, to behave differently – especially when it feels awkward.
Appreciation. When we feel low, we don’t think much of our prospects. Someone needs to remind us that we remain worthwhile. Gifted. Capable. And because they see us, we know it’s not flattery.
You’ll recognise this person by the questions they ask.
In the truths they offer with courage.
And in the way their words make you feel appreciated again.
Find that traveling companion for your next inner journey.
Be seen.
Feel courage.
Recover appreciation.
Does the above feel like the core qualities of someone who helped you? Or of someone who would like would be around and could be reached out to when the proverbial doggie doo hits the fan?
That’s it! No more about the bounties of transformative coaching 😉
Next, I will post on themes of personal challenge to invite you to reflect on the mystery of human nature. Let me leave you today by encouraging you to share issues you’d welcome reading about 🙏🏻
